Ways To Collect Child Support

For some custodial parents, collecting child support from the child’s father can be a never ending game of cat and mouse. The delinquent parent is no sooner found that he or she has disappeared again. Collecting child support in cases like this can be challenging but not impossible. Custodial parents usually need to seek assistance from child support collection agencies if they are not receiving it as ordered by the court. If the other parent is legitimately employed and can be found, then the agency can collect child support by a number of means, including garnishment of wages, contempt actions, prosecution, and tax refund interception. Of course, if the deadbeat parent is extremely mobile and jumps from one cash paying job to another, it will be much more difficult to enforce the orders of the court. If the custodial parent can afford it, a private investigator could be quite helpful in cases like this.

If you are the custodial parent, and have been awarded child support by the courts, a variety of state, civil, and criminal remedies for collecting child support are in place. In addition to providing assistance in locating the parent who fails to make court ordered child support payments, the system assists the custodial parent in getting the money owed to them, by setting up a payment system based on what amount has been ordered by the court and any back child support due. The agencies are especially helpful and can serve as a mediary when a dispute arises or an adjustment in child support is warranted. Each state differs in the types of services they offer in collecting child support, and some are less and more aggressive than others.

Child support is what it is; it is supposed to be there for the child(ren), to pay for a portion of the things that the child needs on a daily basis, like food, clothing, and shelter. Some of these deadbeat parents have absolutely no regard for their children’s welfare, and they either don’t pay it because they really don’t care, they can’t, or they are trying to get back at the custodial parent in some twisted way. The children always get caught in the middle, and they are truly the ones suffering. Collecting child support can be quite time consuming as well as expensive in some instances, but the children deserve it, don’t they?
